High-quality product, designed in the U.K. from the newest and most exciting leisure supplier.
When off grid for longer than just a weekend, on pure battery power, a compressor fridge is really what you need, as opposed to a thermo-electric fridge. A thermo-electric fridge will run constantly and flatten your battery very quickly. On the other hand, a compressor cool box will switch off and cycle only when required, working with the onboard thermostat. This also means that you can cool your fridge down to a certain temperature, as opposed to a set number of degrees below the ambient temperature. Compressor technology is a lot more expensive than a simple cooler, but with the TotalFreeze products you can have it all. High quality, but still very affordable as it is fast and efficient.
Here are some details on the TotalFreeze range of compressor cool boxes.
The sturdy fridge/freezer has dual zones. The smaller compartment acts as a fridge, great for storing things you want to keep chilled; like milk, butter etc. The larger compartment can be set to freeze items – great for packing up a family holiday’s worth of BBQ food! We think the vast majority will use the TotalFreeze as a fridge only, which is of course entirely possible. Just set the temperature to your desired level. The build quality of these units, is impressive. They feel sturdy, the hinges and door latches are well made and the compressor unit is well protected and well ventilated. There is plenty of space inside the cool box – you can comfortably fit 2 litre drinks bottles in (standing up).
The TotalFreeze compressor fridge range comes in 3 different sizes: 35 litre, 45 litre and 55 litre. This is the 45 litre version, the most popular size which is perfect for family weekend trips or a solo sailor for longer voyages.
The TotalFreeze cooler controls are simple to use. A smart LED control system easily changes the temperature, or modes (i.e. to engage the ECO Mode). Usefully, the screen read out tells you things such as battery voltage, so you are always aware of what power is being consumed and what you have left. There is also a built in light.
The fridge will run from multiple electric sources. A.C. (normal 3 pin plug) or D.C. 12-volt or 24 volt is fine. All power leads are supplied with the fridge.
The TotalFreeze is very efficient using only around 45 watts, or 3.7 amps an hour. This is because the high quality, quiet compressor inside will only come on intermittently to keep the unit at the desired temperature, controlled by the internal thermostat. Cooling is possible down to -20 degrees. Due to excellent insulation, the TotalFreeze will stay cold for up to an unbelievable 8 hours once unplugged and coupled to the TotalPower 144 small (we stock these) Lithium Power it will run for over 3 hours, the TotalPower 500 can power the fridge constantly for over 11 hours. Enough to keep the contents cold for a weekend trip.
There is an inbuilt battery protection system. Depending on how you set it, the fridge will turn off if the battery voltage drops below the pre-set value. You can choose between 9.0V, 10.1V or 11.1V leaving enough power to start your engine. The cut off voltages are different when running it from a 24-volt battery.
The TotalFreeze is under half the price of some of its competitors for a similar product, so it is a really good investment for those looking for value for money whilst also being backed up by a market leading 2-year warranty as standard.
