Plough Anchor - Galvanised Steel

Robust plough style anchor – available in a variety of weights.

The plough anchor is so called because of its resemblance to traditional agricultural ploughs. This model of anchor consists of an arrow shaped fluke and a hinged shank. The hinged shank makes it similar to the original CQR anchors patented in the USA by Geoffrey Taylor in the 1930’s. The hinge serves to prevent the weight of the shank from negatively impacting the fluke’s orientation while setting. A secondary benefit is that it allows the anchor to turn with direction changes rather than breaking out.

This plough anchor is formed from thick, hot galvanised cast steel. This gives it high resistance to corrosion.

This style of anchor has good performance on all types of sea beds.

Plough anchors are usually stowed in a roller at the bow.

As a very rough guide work on 1.5kg per metre and adjust the weight of the anchor taking into consideration varying factors such as wider or taller than average boats, the water and weather conditions you will be sailing in as well the type of sea bed.
