Compact Radar Reflector - Sailing Boat or Motor Boat

Radar reflectors are an important part of any boat.

Most small boats, especially those made of GRP, return a very weak echo to radar. In order to maximise your visibility to other ships a radar reflector should be fitted. In fact, according to SOLAS V 19.2.1.7 vessels of less than 150 gross tonnage should have a radar reflector present to enable detection by ships navigating by radar.

These compact radar reflectors are perfect for smaller vessels as they are 600mm long x 50mm diameter. However despite their compact design they have a 2m square reflecting surface and are guaranteed for up to 2.5 nautical miles.

How does it work?

Several aluminium reflective elements are crossed at 90 degree angles to return the radar signal.
These aluminium plates are housed within a clear, protective plastic tube.

How is it fixed?

This compact model comes in a choice of two mounting options:

For sailing boats there are hooks at either end of the tube which enable the reflector to be fitted onto a stay or shroud.

Or

For motor boats the tube has a snap down folding mounting base at one end. So the reflector can be screwed down onto any flat surface and can be raised or lowered as required.
